What makes capital cities hard to guess in hangman?
They come from dozens of languages. Reykjavik is Icelandic, Ljubljana Slovene, Ulaanbaatar Mongolian - each keeps its native spelling.
Letter pairs English never uses. KJ in Reykjavik and LJ in Ljubljana give sound-based guessers nothing to work with.
Extreme vowel patterns. Ouagadougou has eleven letters and just two distinct consonants; Ulaanbaatar doubles its As twice.
Familiar sound, unfamiliar page. Most players have heard Tegucigalpa on the news but never once written it.
Tips for guessing capital words
Guess A, O and U early on Hard. The longest capitals are extraordinarily vowel-heavy.
Use the length. Four letters narrows the field to Rome, Oslo and Lima immediately.
Exploit repeats. One N in Antananarivo is four Ns; one U in Ouagadougou is three.
Think continent by continent. Running through Europe, then Africa, then Asia surfaces the answer faster than guessing letters cold.
Questions
What is the hardest capital to guess in hangman?
Ouagadougou - with only G and D for consonants, wrong guesses pile up fast even for players who know the city.
Why are there no two-word capitals?
Hangman blanks don't support spaces, so Buenos Aires, Mexico City, New Delhi and Kuala Lumpur are deliberately excluded.
Can I use these words in my own hangman game?
Absolutely - this list is here to use. If you'd prefer to play online with capitals as the category right now, click here to start a game.
