Year 3 and 4 Spelling List — KS2 Spelling Game 📝

The Year 3 and 4 statutory spelling list is the set of 100 words pupils in England are expected to spell by the end of lower Key Stage 2, from the National Curriculum's English Appendix 1 — separate, February, library, believe and the rest. How the levels work

All 108 words are split into three by length, so the same list works across the class:

• Easy — the shortest words (5–7 letters).
• Medium — the middle of the list (7–8 letters).
• Hard — the longest words (8–12 letters), where one missed letter matters most.

Where the list gives two forms — occasion(ally), eight/eighth, though/although, woman/women — both are included, so the category holds a few more than 100.

Spelling games for the classroom

Tricky words on this list

• Separate — "there's a rat in separate" — the second vowel is an A.
• February — the first r is silent in most people's speech.
• Knowledge — a silent k at the start and a hidden d near the end.
• Believe — i before e except after c — and this one follows the rule.
• Occasionally — double c, single s, double l.
